For good advice, Ask a Bartender

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The best advice is bartender advice.

We’ve seen it all, heard it all and done it all.

Customers are dying to talk to us too. I’ve consistently found that a simple “how’s it going” to even the most unapproachable lone customer, unleashes the flood gates and that’s before they’ve had a few.

It makes perfect sense - we’re a friendly face outside of their social circle, plus we get them buzzed. A good bartender is the only objective ear in most people’s lives. There is even an unspoken “bartender customer privilege” agreement.

I was happy to stumble onto the blog of a bartender named Mitchell that’s putting his advice skills to good use - Ask a Bartender

Enjoy!

Waiter Rant has gone on a hilarious streak of “50 signs” posts. There’s a little something there for everyone - Restaurant Owners, Customers and Waiters.

Art of Drink has added to the mix with 50 Signs You Are a Bad Bartender . We’ve all worked with these type of bartenders. We may have also been guilty of a few of these transgressions from time to time :-)

The Table 20 Blog - “Hello World”

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Hey folks my name is a Trevor Smith. I’ve worked for many years as a server, bartender and manager. The thing I’ve always loved about our industry is the people. No matter the job - good or bad - I’ve always loved the people and the culture. There is no other group more tight knit, authentic and creative.

The Table 20 blog is a place for bar & restaurant folks (foh, boh, mgmt) to share experiences, issues & service tips. I envision Table 20 Talk as an extension of our unique community.

I invite you to submit your ideas, shift stories, photos, cool links, service tips, job hunting advice and whatever you think your fellow worker might benefit from.

I’m also in search of a few regular writers/bloggers for the site - so let me know.

This is going to be a good time!
